What’s ETC Device

The ETC (Electronic Toll Collection System) is a system that allows for fares to be calculated automatically for vehicles passing through toll gates on expressways, without having to stop.

Notes:

  • At some tollgates, the entrance and exit procedures may take place at the same location.
  • If the entrance or exit does not indicate an ETC lane, you may have to pay with cash.
  • Both ETC and non-ETC-equipped vehicles can use the lanes marked “ETC/一般”. Please exercise caution, as general vehicles may stop at entrances and exits.
  • Sometimes, the barrier might not open for some reason. Do not back up the vehicle if that happens; doing so can be dangerous. Use the intercom to follow the instructions of the attendant.
